Saurer MH4

The Saurer MH4 was a military vehicle of the Swiss Army, which was manufactured by Adolph Saurer AG and was used from 1945 to 1985 with the troops.

Technology

The M4, Acid Factory name 4MH (4- wheel drive vehicle, M for military construction, H for rear engine ), was developed primarily as a tow vehicle for 7.5 inch howitzers. The vessel had permanent all-wheel drive, Kegelraddifferenziale front and rear. Many parts correspond to the execution of the Saurer M6 and M8. The engine was almost identical, but had two less cylinders.

The model 1946 had the proven Saurer CR1DM engine, four-cylinder in-line engine with 70 hp, the newer model 1952 CR2DM engine with 75 hp. All M4 were equipped with front winch, traction 2'500 kg, cable length 70 meters. Cable only to the front. This first model had on each side 3 consecutive bucket seats, in the middle room for ammunition, materials and tools, Blach roof on steel pipe rack, open side behind the cab.

The 1952 model had between driver's cab and engine a small dock leveler with hinged side loading, front and back of this bridge each have a fold-down bench seat for 4 people, the payload increased by around 600 kg 2,250 kg. In this and the fuel tank was positioned otherwise noted, content increased from 70 to 100 liters. A new front fascia and a modified hood were also improvements. The five-speed gearbox and the steering remained unchanged. Since the engine was installed backwards, a relatively light steering and good visibility was forward.

The narrow seat assembly when 4MH was also by design. To achieve the lowest possible vehicle silhouette, the seats have been arranged inside - and not on the wheel arches. Consequently, there was only space left in the vehicle center. The stability in the area was compared to the M6 and M8 Saurern, much better, despite the almost identical central tube frame means. With regard to off-road capability, he stood his multi-wheeled brothers M6 and M8 in every way. When pulling heavy trailer loads in the area of the rear engine is also beneficial.
