Saurimo

Province

Saurimo ( during the colonial period Henrique de Carvalho ) is a city and municipality in northeastern Angola. Saurimo is also the seat of the Archdiocese of Saurimo.

Management

It is the provincial capital of Lunda Sul. The city is bounded on the north by the municipalities Lucapa and Cambulo, to the east by the Democratic Republic of Congo, in the south near the village of Dala and to the west by the municipality Cacolo and Lubalo. It includes the municipalities Saurimo months Quimbundo and Sombo.

History

In the Portuguese colonial era to 1975, the city Henrique de Carvalho said. During the Angolan Civil War IDPs fled to Saurimo.

Economy

Near the city is the fourth largest Diamentmine the world that Catoca mine.

In Saurimo is planning the housing project Nova Vida been started ( German New Life ). About 3,000 condos for dealing with the diamond industry and their families are to be created. The whole thing is funded by the Endiama. The village will also get sports fields, schools, libraries, its own university and other basic infrastructure. The project is located 10 km from the city center and 20 kilometers from Saurimo Catoca away.

Traffic

Saurimo has an airport and is the hub of several supra-regional roads.
