Sauvignon vert

Tocai Friulano is an indigenous white grape variety of northern Italy and a classic variety of Friuli and Veneto. Their cultivation is recommended in several provinces of northern Italy. Admitted she is also in Argentina, Chile and Russia. In Italy, an area under vines of 7,260 hectares was raised in 1999, in Argentina, the area amounted to nearly 1,000 acres.

The grape was originally in Italy simply Tocai. However, the Ampelograph Dalmasso suggested the present name Tocai Friulano, to avoid confusion with the Tokay. On 21 August 2006 wine law specifies that the name of the grape variety only Friulano may read since the 2008 vintage, so that EU requirements in relation to trademark protection of Tokaj are met.

The late-ripening variety is growing strong and profitable vigorously. The varietal white wines are straw-yellow to golden- yellow in color and have a high alcohol content. Both dry and sweet wines are created from it, the much better qualities can be found in the sweet variant. The wine is a varietal or blended input in the DOC wine Bianco di Custoza, Berici, Collio Gorizia, eastern hills of Friuli, Friuli Annia, Friuli Aquileia, Friuli Grave, Friuli Isonzo and Friuli Latisana.
