Sava Centar

The Sava Centar ( Serbian Cyrillic Сава центар ) is an international convention center in Belgrade, capital of Serbia. It has 4,000 seats, the largest auditorium ( auditorium or lecture hall ) of the country and all the former states of Yugoslavia. In addition to the Great Hall, the conference center offers an additional 14 classrooms of 80 to 1000 seats and modern infrastructure for conventions and other large events ( conference offices, telecommunications and information technology, exhibit space, Media Center, etc.) and translation systems for 8 languages ​​.

Sava Congress Centre numerous major conferences, major political conferences and regular cultural events took place since its opening held at the beginning of the 1980s, including about 20 pan-European congresses of medicine, science and technology, the Song Contest 2008 and all previous 18 years meetings of the TELFOR organization for South East Europe.

Location and Architectural History

The Sava Centar is located in the Novi Beograd district near the eponymous river Sava. The old city center with the historic fortress of Belgrade is only about 1 km away and the international airport just 15 km away.

The construction of the convention center began in 1976, but was preceded by a long planning period. It was designed by architect Stojan Maksimovic, who was also manager of the entire construction project.

In late 1979, construction was completed and the congress center, opened with the annual meeting of the International Monetary Fund ( IMF).

Conference halls and infrastructure

The Sava Centar has a surface of 69 720 m². Building A contains the bulk of the conference rooms, the building B, especially the Great Hall ( Great Hall or "Blue Hall " ) with 3,700 seats and a 7-channel translation system; in the foyer of the hall can seat 4,000 people for whom there are bars, information tables, seating areas and a winter garden.

The second largest hall, the hall 1A/1B is designed for about 1,000 visitors, but can be divided into 2 or 3 rooms. The building complex contains a further 13 conference halls for 80 to 250 people, also a press center for 900 people, large exhibition areas, some lounges for receptions and all necessary ancillary rooms. Attached is also a luxury hotel for well-heeled participants and for state guests.

Major conferences

Sava Centar, among others, the OSCE programs were held, the annual meeting of the IMF and World Bank, the main meeting of the UNESCO and the ninth meeting of the Non-Aligned Movement and other political conferences.

Major scientific conferences since 2001 were around 20 pan-European congresses of medicine, technology and natural sciences as well as all previous sessions of 18 years TELFOR organization for South Eastern Europe.

Even in the fields of art and culture, the center is very active; inter alia, took place in international music and dance events and the Song Contest 2008 here.
