Savanna today

Savannna located between Chicago and St. Louis and is visited by many weekenders from these two metropolitan areas. Many are attracted by the small town charm of the city and the low real estate prices, so there are now many second homes here.

The city center has been reconstructed since the mid- 1990s. Since the announcement of the decision on the closure of the Savanna Army Depot, various efforts have been made to settle more shops on Main Street. So most of the erected at the end of the 19th century buildings have been complemented by historically appropriate new lighting and other elements. It stands in strong competition to Galena Jo Daviess County in the neighboring.

Jokingly Savanna is the " metropolis of the Carrol County " because there is the only traffic light of the entire county.
