Savannah Way

The Savannah Way is a road link to the north of Australia, which consists of several highways and outback roads. It extends over a length of 3500 kilometers in east-west direction, linking Cairns in Queensland on the east coast of Australia with Broome on the North West coast of Western Australia. The Savannah Way is a road which provides access to the northern outback and numerous national parks along the route for tourists. Large parts of the Savannah Way are identical to the profile of National Highway 1

Course

Queensland

The Savannah Way begins in Cairns, where he initially runs as Captain Cook Highway to the north. In Smithfield Savannah Way branches off to the west and is now signposted as Kennedy Highway. Meanwhile, the course follows the Savannah Way for about 240 kilometers to the Forty Mile Scrub National Park and the junction of the Gulf Developmental Road. This is along its entire length up to Normanton part of the Savannah Way. From Normanton from the Savannah Way continues in a westerly direction. This section is sometimes known as a Great Top Road, on portions other than Floraville Road. In this section of the Savannah Way passes through the villages of Burketown and Doomadgee, and the Hell's Gate Roadhouse before it reaches the Northern Territory border.

Northern Territory

Coming from Queensland the Savannah Way leads first to Borroloola. From there it follows the course of the Carpentaria Highway in a westerly direction to Cape Crawford. There, the Savannah Way branches off in a northerly direction and leads to a dirt gravel road to Roper Bar at the Roper Highway. Following the course meets the Savannah Way at Mataranka on the Stuart Highway and follow it up to Katherine. By Katherine from the Savannah Way follows the course of the Victoria Highway, to the border of Western Australia.

Western Australia

In Western Australia, the Savannah Way follows the course of the first on Victoria Highway until it meets the Great Northern Highway. This forms a part of its route the last section of the Savannah Way. The route goes from Wyndham along the margins of the Kimberley region over Halls Creek, Fitzroy Crossing and Derby to Broome, where the Savannah Way ends.
