Saviem

Saviem was a French manufacturer of commercial vehicles ( trucks and buses ), the name Saviem is an acronym for Société Anonyme de Véhicules Industriels et d' equipements Mécaniques.

History

The company was part of the Renault group and was founded in 1955 from the brands Somua Latil and commercial vehicles from Renault.

From 1967 to 1977 Saviem cooperated with the German MAN. MAN sold in Germany light truck of Saviem under his own name and used a forward-control cab of Saviem for its own heavy-duty trucks ( types F7 to F9 ). For Saviem could sell the moderate to severe car hood from the MAN program under its own name in France.

In the 1970s Saviem belonged to the four - club where Saviem with Magirus -Deutz, Volvo and DAF cooperated to develop a light to medium weight model (from 1971) and build (from 1975 ).

In 1975, the Renault group, the truck and bus division ( Berliet ) of the Michelin Group and led Berliet and Saviem to 1978 " Renault Véhicules Industriels " ( RVI ). This " Saviem " and " Berliet " were merged, and the products contributed since 1979 the name " Renault ", thus the name " Saviem " disappeared.
