Savitr

Savitri (Sanskrit सवितृ Savitr m. ( Nom ) " Invigorating " ) was a Vedic god with solar character that merged early with the sun god Surya.

Beings in the Rigveda

The Savitri are dedicated in the Rigveda eleven hymns. A hymn addressed to him, the Savitri ( Savitri ), is considered the most important mantra of the Vedas and is named because of the meter also Gayatri Mantra ( Gayatri ).

Savitri is one of the Adityas and considered as impeller, which causes any movement in humans and animals, he wakes up and brings the essence of tranquility. The Ribhus he bestowed immortality. He sees all beings, cleanses from sin and distributes diseases and demons.

Savitri is described as gold, whose golden luster heaven, earth and the sky brightens in between. He is goldäugig, goldzüngig and particularly goldhändig called. His golden arm he stretches into the sky and his golden chariot is drawn by two horses brownish with white cuffs.

Savitri and Surya

A clear distinction between Savitri and the sun god Surya Already in the Rigveda not always. At some points Savitri, who is called the impeller of the sun, significantly different from Surya, on the other hand he seems almost identical to be with him. In later Hinduism, Savitri merged with Surya and is considered to be the nocturnal aspect of the sun, while Surya embodies the aspect of Tagsonne.
