Savkuz Dzarasov

Sawkus Dscharasow ( born January 5, 1930; † 12 July 1990) was a Soviet wrestler North Ossetian origin. He was winner of the bronze medal at the 1960 Olympic Games in free style at heavyweight.

Career

Sawkus Dscharasow grew up in Ordzhonikidze on in North Ossetia and began as a teenager with the rings. As a member of the Soviet Army, he was stationed in different cities and after 1953 was several times champion of Moscow, Ukraine and the RSFSR in free style at heavyweight. By 1956, dominated in the Soviet Union arsenic Mekokischwili is happening in the weight class of Sawkus. When he resigned in 1957, Sawkus Dscharasow fought with Ivan Vykristiuk and Omar Kandelaki for supremacy in the Soviet Union in the heavyweight division. Finally, Sawkus prevailed from 1958. This year he won in the absence of Kandelaki and Vykristiuk the Soviet Championship before V. Batlidse and Sitko. In 1959 he also won in the Second Spartakiade the USSR in the heavyweight division before Ivan Vykristiuk and the young Alexander Medved.

In the same year Sawkus Dscharasow was also used at the World Championships in Tehran. He won there two fights and fought against Pietro Marascalchi from Italy and against Hamit Kaplan drawn from Turkey, with which he won the 3rd place and therefore the World Cup bronze medal. 1959 defeated Sawkus in an international match of the RSFSR against Hungary János Režňák on points.

Although Sawkus finished only third place behind Omar Kandelaki and Alexander Vladimirovich Iwanizki in the heavyweight division at the Soviet Championships in 1960, he was seconded to the Olympic Games in Rome. He won there his first four fights, which also includes victories over Pietro Marascalchi and former Olympic gold medalist and multiple world champion Bertil Antonsson from Sweden were, but then lost to Hamit Kaplan on points and had to put up against the German Wilfried Dietrich even a shoulder defeat. He won the Olympic bronze medal with it after all.

From 1961 Sawkus Dscharasow was replaced in the Soviet Union by Alexander Medved and Alexander Iwanizki. He therefore were no further operations in international championships more. He resigned from the Soviet army and studied in Vladikavkaz sport. Then Dscharasow worked for many years as head of the sport organization of trade unions of North Ossetia.
