Savoia Excelsior Palace

The Savoia Excelsior Palace is a 4 -star conference and convention hotel in the northern Italian port city of Trieste. This city hotel was built in 1911 is located on the waterfront Riva del Mandracchio, right next to the palace of the Austrian Lloyd, and only about 300 meters south of the Piazza Grande. History

The Savoia Excelsior Palace was built in the years 1910-1911 according to the plans of the Viennese architect Ladislaus Fiedler in the style of eclecticism. The opening ceremony on June 22, 1911 was a major event of the social city and was accompanied in the port of Trieste from the droppers to an Atlantic crossing MS Thalia. The hotel was the last of the great grand hotel of the Imperial Riviera; after the hotel Vanoli (1873 ) in Trieste, the Hotel Kvarner (1884 ) and the Hotel Imperial (1885 ) - both in Opatija, the Hotel Astoria (1900) in Grado, the Riviera Hotel (1909 ) in Pula and the Hotel Palace ( 1910) in Portorož. From the contemporary press, the hotel quickly received the award as the " most luxurious and impressive hotel of the entire Austro-Hungarian monarchy." The ideal internal spatial references were in the following years, the model for the planning of other grand hotels.

With Trieste as an important trading port and one of the monarchy a significant cultural center, the hotel hosted international entrepreneurs, artists, diplomats, and a member of the aristocracy and the upper middle class. Among the members of the imperial family, especially Emperor Franz Joseph I was impressed by the atmosphere of the hotel.

It was only after 1918, with the abolition of the hinterland, and then after 1954, with the isolated location of the city on the edge of the Iron Curtain, to the audience of the hotel changed. During the 1970s, the hotel has undergone an extensive renovation, however - in the sign of the time taste - large parts of the furniture, and wall and ceiling ornaments fell victim.

In the early 1990s, the hotel was taken over by the Florentine Star Hotels group who underwent it from 2006 to 2009 a heritage - oriented general rehabilitation, and many of the original features have been restored. Soon after the re- opening of the hotel in June 2009, was the Savoia Excelsior Palace the venue of a meeting of foreign ministers at the G8 summit in Italy in 2009, among other things, with German Foreign Minister Frank -Walter Steinmeier retired and U.S. Secretary of State Hillary Clinton. On 22 June 2011, the hotel celebrated its 100th anniversary.

Built in 2009, renovated Savoia Excelsior Palace has 142 rooms and 16 suites, including the 106 square meter nautical suite. The " Savoy ", the hotel's restaurant, which offers up to 160 guests.
