On March 12, 1926, the Savoy Ballroom opened in the Lenox Avenue in Harlem. It was the first dance hall, where blacks and whites could meet to dance without racial conflicts. Was opened by the Club of the bands of Leon Abbey and Fletcher Henderson. Later there played the famous swing bands of the time. Chick Webb was with his band as the "King of the Savoy ." He hired Ella Fitzgerald and made them famous.

The Savoy had a significant influence on the development of jazz music. But also for new dance styles, it was formative: the original Swing Dance Lindy Hop has its origins here.
