Savoy Hotel

The Savoy Hotel is located just off The beach in London. It was built by Richard D' Oyly Carte, the owner of the next door Savoy Theatres and opened in 1889. With 263 rooms, this is one of the most prestigious and opulent hotels of London. The hotel's name comes from the Savoy Palace, which once stood at this location. The first manager was César Ritz, who later became the founder of the Ritz hotel. The hotel was designed by Thomas Edward Collcutt, who also designed the Wigmore Hall.

The Savoy was famous a long time for its inventive chefs. In his kitchen, the Peach Melba was invented, which was named after the famous singer Nellie Melba. The creative creator of this dish was the French chef Auguste Escoffier. The melba toast should also have been created in the kitchen of Savoy.

The Savoy Court, the square in front of the hotel, is the only street in the United Kingdom, which is driven on the right side of the road. Taxis use this from happy to comfortably turn.

The hotel was purchased in January 2005 by the Arabian investor Prince Alwaleed bin Talal Al Saud and has since been operated by the hotel group Fairmont Hotels and Resorts, headquartered in Canada. After three years of renovation, the hotel reopened on October 10, 2010.
