Saw chain

When the chain is an endless chain of executed with special cutters part of a chain saw or chain cutter that performs the removal of material in the material to be machined.

Execution

The individual links in the chain ( Drive link, link, cutting member ) are firmly riveted together in the episode cutting member left, link, drive links, link, right cutter and drive links.

Functions of the individual links:

  • The drive member transmits the driving force from the pinion gear (hereinafter also called the drive spider ) to the chain and, through the driver for a distribution of the adhesive chain oil rail. These drivers are designed this triangular to the inside of the chain down. The outside is mostly smooth. However, there are also chains with bumper drive links on the top have specially shaped sliding plates that provide a quieter section.
  • The link connects blowing and cutting limbs.
  • The cutting member is in charge of the machining of the wood. It is smooth on the bottom. On the top of a rectangular cutting with prior distance nose ( depth gauge ) is formed. The tooth roof (leading ) raises the wood fiber, the tooth side cuts the fiber. The chip thickness is determined here by the vertical distance between the depth and cutting tooth top edge. This distance should be downloaded filed with a depth gauge and a flat file on a proper measurement of 0.025 "= 0.64 mm. Polishes you climb the depth gauges too deep from the chip size becomes larger, however, the power chain saw is overwhelmed in terms of force and the threat of a knockback effect. in the teeth of a distinction semi chisel and full chisel. semi chisel with a rounded side edge are found preferably in less powerful chainsaws, whereas full chisel are reserved with larger cutting width strong saws. semi chisel have due to the lower material removal a less recoil effect. shaping of the cutting element is crucial for the average behavior.

Chainsaws are manufactured in many different variations. So when purchasing a saw chain the chain pitch, width and length is important to note the dimensions of which must be strictly observed.

  • The chain pitch ( in inches ) of the distance of the rivet bolt is measured ( in the connecting plate ) from center to center. To determine the division of the distance of 3 consecutive rivets must be measured, then divide by 2 = chain pitch. The apartments are 1 /4 ", 3/ 8" ( or 0.375 " ), 3/8H, 0.325 " and 0.404 "
  • The amount of the chain width corresponds to the thickness of the driving element = the width of the groove in the rail. Offered are 1.1 mm, 1.3 mm, 1.5 mm and 1.6 mm and 2.0 mm as .404 " Harvester chain.

In the field of woodworking machines, there are still partly coarser partitions than the .404.

  • The chain length is partially given in cm, but also the number of drive links (eg 52 E for endless chain or 52 Tg for 52 drive links ) is in use.

A complete purchase specification would therefore be, for example, 3/8 " - 1.3 - 52E

Historical chains

Risser tooth 2 - tabs - chain

This chain was founded in 1934 by Alfonso logged Lange, Altona- Hochkamp for DOLMAR at the Reich Patent Office for a patent. It consisted of two alternating links ( Risser tooth), which were performed in a groove. It was used at the Dolmar saws C, CL in 5 mm thickness at which CK, CP and CF in 3 mm thickness. This chain consists of 4 different element types: left cutting member (LS ), right cutter (RS), left reamer ( LR ), right reamer ( RR). The arrangement of an endless chain was as follows: LS, RS, LS, RS, LS, RS, LR, RR, followed by the repetition. The cutters have only the task to cut through the wood fiber. Removing get the reamer.

AKCO chain

This chain was used on saws B60, D60, N60 by A. Kühn Coswig / Dresden in the GDR. It is a 3-flap - Risser tooth chain. The chain pitch is 15 x 15 with 2 mm Drive link thickness. In addition to the right and left articular cutting the external part of the drive element is used as a raker.

Mafell chain

This necklace looks of today's modern chipper chain already but is very similar to another Risser tooth chain with 3 tabs (right and left incisors and drive links ). Addition Before the cutting is still sitting a reamer, so this chain has 3 Scrapers ( half-left, center and right half ). This reamer is used in today's chipper chains as a depth gauge. Use found in the carpenter's Ablängkettensäge US50 from Mafell.

Variants

Chainsaws are used:

  • Chain saws for manual harvesting and tree care, as Abbundsäge in carpentry, and in sculpture
  • As a tool for timber harvesters for mechanical harvesting
  • As Ablängwerkzeug ( chop saw ) in sawmills
  • With chain Stemmern ( chain milling)
  • At hand chain ( chain with two handles )
  • As separation and milling machining centers for wood ( editing machine )
  • To saw in the stone quarries and processing large blocks of the rock or splitting blocks into smaller
  • In building renovations ( horizontal barrier )

Special shapes

Carbide Chain

It is used by the saw manufacturers in rescue saws and can separate stones such as gas concrete, brick, sandstone, gypsum, and soft sheet, since the cutting member has carbide- studded teeth. It takes place mainly in the area of the fire and the THW use, but ( nails, etc. ) treat contaminated wood used as timber or old roof trusses used for frozen or strongly influenced by soil, stone or metal parts. There is a competing product a chain / chipper with three times stronger chromium layer as usual. Experiments with cobalt alloys, however, are not to enter the market. Just as with the hard metal version occurs the Nachschärfproblem here, this is only diamond or silicon carbide are suitable.

Special chain

The chain was in small American chain saws used ( McCulloch, Poulan ) and the Dolmar 101 Super. It has a different incisor with rapidly decreasing roof and is sharpened directly without disassembling the chain saw by a sanding block on the saw firmly installed and operated by hand.

Stone saw chain

This chain consists of double cone - cutting elements, each connected to a steel cable. At the thickest point of the cutting body is the cutting material, such as Diamond incorporated. Individual cutting bodies are unscrewed. This allows the chain to be shortened or lengthened as desired.

The chain is threaded around the block to be cut or through a hole. A drive wheel sets in motion the chain. The direction of pull determines the course of the cut. During the sawing of the section is cooled with water and flushed the eroded rock from the cut. The chain should be tensioned continuously during the cut.
