Saw u

The Sor U ( in Thai ซอ อู้ ) belongs to the group of string instruments and is in the south of Isan played ( North Eastern Thailand ).

The instrument consists of a sound body, a slightly curved fingerboard and is played with metal strings. The sound body is formed of a half of a coconut, the head is covered with calfskin. The bow is made of wood and is played with horsehair, which is stretched tight from one end to the other end.

The Sor U is played in the ensemble, usually as an accompaniment to folk dances at festivals and in ritual performances.
