Sawankhalok District

Amphoe Sawankhalok ( Thai: อำเภอ สวรรคโลก ) is a district ( Amphoe ) in the province of Sukhothai in Northern Thailand. The capital of the district is also called Sawankhalok.

Geography

Neighboring districts (from the south clockwise): Amphoe Si Samrong the, Thung Saliam, Si Satchanalai, and Si Nakhon Province Sukhothai, Uttaradit Province and Amphoe Phichai Amphoe Phrom Phiram the province of Phitsanulok.

History

The district was originally the district of the provincial capital of the province Sawankhalok, which in 1932 was merged with the province of Sukhothai. The new province was first called also Sawankhalok, but was renamed in Sukhothai in 1939. In 1917 the district of Mueang ( เมือง ) in Wang Mai Khon ( วัง ไม้ ขอน ) was renamed in 1938 in Mueang Sawankhalok. ( เมือง สวรรคโลก ). From 1939, he was only called Sawankhalok.

Management

Sawankhalok is divided into 14 communes ( tambon), which are further subdivided into 117 villages ( Muban ).

Sawankhalok itself ( Thai: เทศบาล เมือง สวร ร ร ค โลก ) has a town status ( thesaban Mueang ) and consists of the whole Tambon Mueang Sawankhalok.

There are also two small towns ( thesaban tambon) in the district:

  • Nai Mueang ( Thai: เทศบาล ตำบล ใน เมือง ) consists of the whole tambon Nai Mueang,
  • Pa Kum Ko ( Thai: เทศบาล ตำบล ป่า กุม เกาะ ) consists of the whole Tambon Pa Kum Ko.

Furthermore, there are ten " Tambon Administrative Organizations" (TAO, องค์การ บริหาร ส่วน ตำบล - administrative organizations) in the district.
