Saxeten, in the background Interlaken

Saxeten is a municipality in the Interlaken- Oberhasli administrative district in the canton of Bern in Switzerland.

Saxeten church belongs to the parish Gsteig near Interlaken.


The name Saxeten probably goes back to the Latin form saxata ( rocky place ).

Saxeten is drained by the Saxetbach, which flows near Wilderswil the Lütschen.


On July 27, 1999, in the canyon of Saxetbaches a canyoning accident in which 21 young people from Australia, New Zealand, England, South Africa and Switzerland, found the death occurred.



Saxeten is the starting point for many hikes. Lobhorn in the Sul - hut, over the Renggli after Aeschiried about Wilderswil to Schynige plate


Since a few years Saxeten has a day school, which is attended by the children from the community, as well as individual children from surrounding communities. Since a maximum of twelve children are taught from the first to the ninth grade, can explain every single very individual.


From Interlaken Ost the Bernese Oberland- Bahn run ( BOB) to Wilderswil. From there, the post bus runs to Saxeten.
