Saxler

Saxler is a municipality in the volcanic Eifel region of Rhineland -Palatinate. It belongs to the municipality Daun.

Geography

The place is located in the natural park Eifel. To Saxler includes the residential places Mariahof, Michelshof, Saxlermühle, Waldhof and Weierhof.

History

For drainage works a Roman settlement site was north-northwest of Saxler in the region of S- slope found in 1991. There are also many fragments of pottery have been found dating from the 2nd to 4th centuries. Saxler belonged to the late 18th century to the office down the Electorate of Trier, after the conquest by the French from 1798 to 1814 for Canton down the arrondissement of Prüm in the Département de la Sarre. As a result of the Congress of Vienna in 1815 it came to the Kingdom of Prussia and belonged to the circle down in the Trier region and from 1822 to the Rhine province. The population was 95 in 1910, 117 in 1939 and has since declined.

The local council in Saxler consists of six council members, who were elected at the municipal election held on 7 June 2009 by majority vote, and the honorary mayor as chairman.

Blazon: "In a blue shield a silver beam inclined right, topped with a red, long-handled shovel; accompanied above by a silver mill wheel, down from a silver diagonally right down -turned fish ".

The town is dominated by the Catholic Church of St. Wendelin, a small hall building from the early 18th century
