Saxon Railway Museum

The Saxon Railway Museum is a museum of historical railway vehicles in Chemnitz. It is located on the site of the former railway operations work Chemnitz- Hilbersdorf.

History

The Saxon Railway Museum is located on the site of the former railway operations work for freight locomotives on the Chemnitz- Hilbersdorf station. This was responsible for its maintenance and repair to the termination of the last steam locomotives in 1988.

After the closure of the railway operations work in 1992, the club took over the existing Saxon Railway Museum, which is under monument. The museum has two permanent 26- roundhouse with 20 - m- hubs. In addition there are a coaling station with high bunker and sand filling, water spouts, a functioning Achssenke and the other facilities of a functioning rail operations work for steam locomotives.

The exhibition shows the development of railways in Saxony, and especially in the Chemnitz region is presented. In addition to an extensive inventory of steam, diesel and electric locomotives, the museum also has an extensive collection of operable light railway vehicles.

The grounds of the museum served as the backdrop for a Czech Güterbahnhof freedom at all costs from the year 2010 - For the television film Go West.

Exhibits

Many of the locomotives are on loan from private individuals, the Dresden Transport Museum or the Museum of Transport Nuremberg. 2009, the body of 18 steam locomotives, 16 diesel locomotives and three electric locomotives and 40 passenger and freight cars. The museum shows the steam locomotives 38 205, 43 001, 75 515 and 86 001, the diesel locomotives V 180 141, 219 003, V 60 1001 as well as the electric locomotives 254 059 and E 44 045 as a special vehicle to the museum's collection also includes a Tatra T141 with Culemeyer - road scooters.

The approval of the club's 50 3648 ran out in the spring of 2009. The regular special trips are therefore performed with the Gastlok 65 1049. The end of August each year there is a large boiler house party with locomotive parade.

Light railway in the Saxon Railway Museum

In 1992, the field grade was founded in Saxon Railway Museum, to demonstrate the importance of the former railways in Saxony. East on the fallow land to the railway museum, on which were partially warehouse space, you put a light railway network in 600 -mm -gauge station, engine shed and workshop.

On 25 November 2005, half of today's route was inaugurated. By 2006, the field train continued to gain length. The remaining part of the route was inaugurated on 8 April 2006.

For this purpose, the field train for four cars, a variety of tippers, a Kalklore, two long timber transport, two handcart and a weed spraying lorries.
