Saxonia International Balloon Fiesta

The Saxonia International Balloon Fiesta is the third largest balloon festival in Europe. It takes place since 1995 - from 1996 year in Leipzig - in the summer instead. In 1995, the Fiesta with 5000 visitors and 100 hot air balloons in the small Saxon town Mügeln. In 1996 the event was moved to Leipzig. The area of the leisure park Lößnig - Dölitz was appropriate because it is outside the official flight corridors. Meanwhile, up to 130,000 people visit the event. Is hosted the Balloon Fiesta from a Leipzig contractor and the municipality of Leipzig. The hot air balloons are primarily funded through sponsorship.

In the event of hot air balloons competitions fox hunt, balloon flight and wide Keygrab be discharged, with the start sometimes carried further south. The site is located between the urban areas and the Leipzig New Lößnigs.

In 2012, Saxonia International Balloon Fiesta was held under the motto " Balloons in the City" for the first time on the hard meadow in front of the Red Bull Arena instead.
