Saxony Cup

The Sachsenpokal is a club competition for Saxon football teams.

Participation is open to the Saxon men of the 3rd League, Regional (4th division), the league (5th division), the Saxony league (6th division) and district leagues (7th Division ) and the cup winners of the 13 circles. Since the 2009/10 season no second Representatives of participating teams may participate in more Sachsenpokal, the Chemnitz FC II and FSV Budissa Bautzen II had the last time an exemption.

Host is the Saxon Football Association. It play a maximum of 32 teams in the knockout cup winners from the system, which then may participate in the first round of the DFB Cup in the next game year. If the cup winner has already qualified his league affiliation, the final opponent will be re-nominated. Similarly, no secondary representations of professional teams may participate more in the DFB Cup from the season 2008/ 09, in the case of a qualification and the runners would also be authorized to start.

The competition will be played due to the reorganization of the " football landscape " after the political changes of 1989 only since the 1990/91 season. On the first competition only attended twelve country division (then fourth division) and four unterklassige teams.

So far with FC Erzgebirge Aue (2000 to 2002) and FC Sachsen Leipzig win (1993 to 1995), two teams the trophy in three consecutive seasons, FC Erzgebirge Aue even succeeded five times in succession to reach the final ( 1998 to 2002 ).
