The state election in Saxony in 2009 was the fifth election to the Parliament of Saxony after German reunification; it took place on August 30, 2009. At the same time the state legislature in Saarland and Thuringia in the parliament were elected. It was the last election date before the 2009 federal election on 27 September 2009.

According to the official results, the CDU remained Prime Minister Stanislaw Tillich in light vocal losses are clearly the strongest party. Even The Left lost share of the vote. While the SPD could easily improve their historically low voter turnout in 2004, the FDP increased significantly, so that a parliamentary coalition of the CDU and FDP as an alternative to the continuation of the previous CDU / SPD coalition was possible. While alliance 90/Grüne their results stabilized, the NPD, the renewed entry into the state parliament succeeded despite significant losses.

As a result, the choice of a governing coalition of CDU and FDP was formed which Tillich elected as Prime Minister of the State Government.

In the state elections in Saxony in 2004 on 19 September 2004, the CDU Saxony had lost the absolute majority for the first time since the re- establishment of the Free State of Saxony.
