Saya Tin

Saya Tin (* February 12, 1894 Mandalay, Yangon † August 8, 1950 ) was a Burmese musician and composer, among other things, the National Anthem of Myanmar ( Burma ), GBA Majay Bma wrote.

Youth

Saya Tin was born in Mandalay, Myanmar. His father, U Yan Aung, was in the service of the last Burmese king Thibaw. He had an older and a younger sister.

He joined the school in 1909 at the age of 17 years and became a teacher at a private school. In his spare time he played his concertina ( a hexagonal accordion ) and sang. However, since this was frowned upon, he had to give up because of sustained criticism of his teaching posts.

Musical career

After his dismissal he continued to struggle with his concertina, explored their sounds and sound patterns and composed the way modern songs for the then-known dancers from Mandalay. In 1918, he finally founded at the request of his former students own private school "Young Men Buddhist School " and became known as YMB Saya Tin. With his students, he established beyond a music group that appeared free of charge on charity events and weddings.

His reputation grew and he had to frequently travel to Rangoon, where his songs were recorded and sold or used for commercial film productions. He became so strongly claimed that he had no time to continue his school, so he had to close. He eventually moved to Rangoon, where he met his old classmates Thakhin Ba Thaung. GBA Majay Bma

Saya Tin composed the song GBA Majay Bma together with Thakin Ba Thaung, who wrote the patriotic lyrics. Officially the song for the first time by Saya Tin was listed in the Shwedagon Pagoda on July 20, 1930 by 17 clock.

In 1947 the song was adopted as the national anthem of Burma. Saya Tin got for 1000 Kyats. On the day of independence in 1950, he was also awarded the title plus Wunna Kyaw Htin ( the admirable - Famous ).

According to his students, he wrote over 4,000 songs during his time in Rangoon, but as an artist he earned little money.

Death

Due to overwork and his poor health he was in 1950 admitted to the Rangoon General Hospital. A day later, on August 8, 1950, he died of tuberculosis. He is buried in the Kyan - daw Cemetery in Rangoon.
