Sayabec

Sayabec is a Canadian municipality in the province of Quebec. It was founded in 1894 and in 2011 had 1864 inhabitants. Sayabec located in a valley in the northern Appalachians near the mouth of Rivière Sayabec in the western end of Lac Matapédia. The municipality is part of the Regional County Municipality of La Matapédia.

The Route 132 leads in west-east direction through Sayabec; there is also a train station.

Geography

Sayabec is located on the south side of the St. Lawrence River, about 375 kilometers northeast of Quebec City (city) and 350 km west of Gaspé. The more important towns in the area include the 60 km distant Rimouski, just 30 km further west, Mont -Joli, Matane (40 km north of Sayabec ) and 20 km further east Amqui.
