Sayyid dynasty

As Sayyid dynasty and the Sayyid dynasty Muslim rulers of India are referred to in the period from about 1414 to 1451 in the Sultanate of Delhi. The dynasty was followed by the Tughluq dynasty and ruled the Sultanate until it was replaced by the Afghan -born Lodi Dynasty.

History

The family claimed to be to be Sayyids, ie descendants of the Prophet Muhammad and thus ultimately of Arabic origin. The central power of the Sultanate of Delhi was fatally weakened by the invasion of Timur ( Tamerlane ) and his plundering of Delhi in the year 1398. After a period of chaos, the Sayyid gained power over Delhi. Her 37 -year period of dominance witnessed the reign of four different members of this dynasty.

The dynasty was founded by Khizr Khan, who had been seconded by Tamerlane the governor of Punjab. Khizr Khan took Delhi in 1414, and so founded the dynasty. Nominally was Khizr Khan on a vassal of the Timurids, the time of Shah Rukh, grandson of Tamerlane. The later sultans are considered as weak and ultimately powerless to the regional power and Gebietsanprüchen the prince vehemently, and thus secure the Sultanate of Delhi and thus the north of India, the old dominant position.
