Sbor národní bezpečnosti

Sbor národní bezpečnosti (SNB ), Slovak Zbor národnej bezpečnosti ( ZNB ) ( German about the National Security Corps ) was the higher authority for police and intelligence tasks in Czechoslovakia after 1945.

History

Prior to consideration of the future security structure Czechoslovakia were made in the context of negotiations on the Kaschauer program, which was adopted in Košice on April 5, 1945 on 4 April, President Beneš with his Decree 1/ 1945, including the Interior Ministry, the future administrative authority determined. The restructuring of police services for the post-war Czechoslovakia was decided on April 17, 1945 in the Government Zdeněk Fierlinger I ( the so-called " Kassa Government"). In the background stood the interest of the Communist Party of Czechoslovakia, early to get the security organs of the future state under their control. The previous police ( četnictvo ), the State Police as well as municipal police forces were disbanded.

The Corps should conduct all police as intelligence sections of the national security at:

  • Veřejná bezpečnost VB ( corps for public safety ) should exercise all previous police duties including those of the Criminal
  • Státní bezpečnost StB ( State Security ) should both the inner and the outward conduct intelligence gathering operations.

Employees whose ideological review recusal were first recruited from members of the Revolutionary Guard, National militias operating militias and from the old police apparatus. In October 1945, the strength of the apparatus was estimated at 34 396. Particular attention was paid to the border area, in particular the Sudetes. There, the presence of security forces from the perspective of the government was not satisfactory, so the beginning of the year 1946, the Border Police Department of the SNB ( Pohraniční útvary SNB) has been established.

The SNB was subordinate to the Interior Ministry and found itself since the beginning of the control region of the Communist Interior Minister Václav Nosek. In the period 1950-1953 the management of the Authority was spun into the newly established after the Soviet pattern Ministry of National Security, which was put together after barely three years with the Home Office again. In 1969, after the proclamation of the federal state ( CSSR ), the powers were regulated as follows:

  • Veřejná bezpečnost VB defeated the Czech or Slovak Ministry of Interior
  • The State Security StB succumbed to the federal Ministry of the Interior

The Corps of National Security SNB was extinguished in 1991.
