SC Zwettl

The Sports Club Zwettl is an Austrian sports club from the district capital Zwettl in Lower Austria and performs the sections soccer, handball, table tennis, chess, motor sports and winter sports. The football section plays under the name SC Sparkasse Zwettl in the national league Lower Austria, the fourth- highest division in Austria.

History of the football section

In an inaugural meeting it was decided on 15 October 1945, the creation of a football section Zwettl. The first players were logged on NÖFV on 10 November 1945. At the same time, the first sports ground was built with the support of the community. In 1947, the General Assembly first statutes were adopted, determined the club colors with blue and white and the club renamed Sports Club Zwettl.

The department played football since the reintroduction of the Regional League East in 1985 until relegation in 1996 in the regional league. After three years of absence, the club in 1999 rose again on the third power level. After a fierce relegation battle in the first year and a subsequent fifth place in the standings in the 2000 /01 season the sports club grew in the following season again in the national league. After re rise in the 2004/05 season under then coach Helmut Lamatsch the descent could be prevented in the first year. In subsequent years it has always played in the lower half of the table, but the club has established itself again in the Eastern League.

In the 2007 /08 season the league was only secured on the final day. As a consequence, they separated after several years of collaboration between coach Lamatsch and committed Lucjan Wojtanovicz as their new coach. Moreover, it was championship beginning with 2008/ 09, the move into the new home, the sport facility Edelhof be completed. Stadium

Since the beginning of the season 2008/09 SC Zwettl plays its home games on the newly built sports complex Edelhof. Among the key features of the new system include the 105 x 68 meter main pitch, training pitch and the two-storey cabin and Tribune building, the auditorium can accommodate 600 visitors. The capacity is about 2000 spectators.

In August 2002, the former home of SC Zwettl was completely destroyed by the flood of the century. Gangs and gates were washed away and the lawn looked like a lunar surface. The municipality decided the traditional Zwettltal Stadium restore. The club had to unsubscribe to minor sports courses in the area its home games. Only in September 2003, the stadium was ready for use again. After repeated floods in autumn 2005 and spring 2006, the final goodbye from the Zwettltal Stadium was decided. This was followed by the move to the newly built sports complex on Edelhof in summer 2008.
