Scalene muscles

As Musculi scalene muscles (Latin for " stairs muscles "; singular musculus scalenus, scalene, Latinized form of the Greek σκαληνός " wrong ", " scalene " ) are referred to three skeletal muscles in the thorax of mammals:

  • Anterior scalene muscle, musculus scalenus ventralis in animals
  • Musculus scalenus medius
  • Musculus scalenus posterior, musculus scalenus dorsalis in animals

The Musculi scalene muscles are among the hypaxial skeletal muscles of the trunk. While the association in humans is unique, this muscle group is comparative - anatomical complicated because not in all mammals, all muscles are formed. In veterinary anatomy, therefore, the relationship to the brachial plexus is used as a classification criterion. Between musculus scalenus ventralis muscle and the scalenus medius (formerly both muscles were the scalene muscle primae costae summarized ) enters the brachial plexus pass ( " posterior scalene " of man ). The Musculus scalenus dorsalis was formerly known as scalene muscle supracostalis.
