The Scalettapass (Romansh Cuolm S- chaletta ) is a mountain pass in the Swiss canton of Graubünden. With a summit altitude of 2'606 m above sea level. M. it connects over the Val Susauna and Dischmatal the Engadine with Davos and Prättigau. At the summit, the European watershed between the basins of the Rhine and the Inn runs. The highest mountain next to the Pass is the Chüealphorn.

In the summer months the Scaletta is located on the routes of many hikers and mountain bikers. The pass is accessible via the Keschhütte and Val Funtauna also from Berguen / Bravuogn. Every year, leads the Swiss Alpine Marathon over the pass.

History

The Scalettapass ( s chaletta: Romansh for " small steps " ) is located on a medieval inner-Alpine route from Chur via Davos to S- chanf to the Engadine and the Chaschauna Pass to Livigno and the Valtellina. This " Via Valtellina " can be understood as a multi-day hike. The former Säumerdörfer Dürrboden at Davos side and Susauna on page Engadine and the hospice Chapella exit of the Val Susauna testify to the erstwhile transport activity. With the construction of Flüelapassstrasse 1866-1868 the Scalettapass lost its economic importance.

1890 presented by the Davos hotelier Willem January Holsboer plans a continuous rail link from Chur over Landquart and Davos to St. Moritz and continue over the Maloja Pass to Chiavenna in Italy were not realized, instead, was until 1904 the construction of the Albula Railway from Thusis to St. Moritz.
