Scaligera Basket Verona

Scaligera Basket Verona is an Italian basketball club based in Verona. The club won the 1998 Korać Cup and in 1997 reached the final of the European Cup Winners' Cup.

After the club was forced to declare bankruptcy in 2002, there was a restart of the association's activities in 2007.

History

The club was founded in 1951 and was from the 1970s in the organized professional leagues in Italy active, first in the series fünftklassigen D. By the end of the decade they made ​​it to the third-rate series B. In the 1986/87 season the club was runner-up this league and got into the second- highest division, the series A2. There they established themselves and moulted to the rise aspirants in the first division.

In 1991 the club celebrated two major successes as Glaxo Verona. First, the team surprisingly won the Italian Basketball Cup. Furthermore, the team was second division champion and rose to the Serie A, where it could not initially establish themselves and descend again. But after a year they managed second-class direct resurgence.

In the season 1993/94 Verona convinced with good benefits. In the league, the team reached the play-offs for the championship, where only in the semifinals to eventual champion Virtus Bologna was final for the first time. In addition, the Cup final was reached again, where you Pallacanestro Treviso had to admit defeat. 1996 lost the team again in the cup final. 1996/97 once more reached the semifinals of the playoffs. Meanwhile renamed Riello Mash Verona, you failed to Treviso. European Cup
