Scalloway

Scalloway (German: Schaldewage ) is a place belonging to the Shetland Islands Mainland. Scalloway is the second largest city of the Shetland Islands. She was formerly the capital of the Shetlands, until it was replaced by Lerwick as the island's capital in the 18th century. Scalloway has around 1,250 inhabitants, which represents approximately 10 % of the island population Mainlands. The biggest attraction is the Castle. The Earl Patrick Stewart had it built in 1600. It is a typical example of Scottish fortifications.

Scalloway Museum

The Shetlands played in the Second World War an important role in the support of the Norwegian resistance. Scalloway was then the "headquarters" of the resistance movement and aim of the escape route " Shetland Bus". The museum offers a look back into the history of this movement.
