Scalpay, Inner Hebrides

Scalpay ( Scottish Gaelic: Sgalpaigh, German "Ship Island" ) is a Scottish island, which is one of the Inner Hebrides. It is located near the northeast coast of Skye Broadford north west of the town and south of the island of Raasay. The island is 24.8 km ². The highest point is Scalpays with 398 meters of the mountain Mullach na Càrn.

The island is privately owned. There is a deer farm. The island is mainly characterized by heathland, but was previously used for forestry. On the island, the owner couple and two employees live.

The island was from about 1890 to the shipping magnate Donald Currie, on whose initiative here, the first roads were built and larger afforestation were carried out.

Gaelic in usage, the terminal is often called Sgalpaigh t- Sratha, to distinguish them from Sgalpaigh near Harris.
