Scandal (Japanese丑闻(スキャンダル) Sukyandaru, erroneously also: Shubun [ Note 1 ] ) is a 1950 filmed by Akira Kurosawa Black and white film.

The film is a critique of the emerging at this time in Japan tabloids, especially their disregard for privacy and their fabrication of scandals.

Action

While the artist Ichiro Aoye (青 江 一郎, Aoe Ichirō ) works in the mountains on one of his paintings, he meets the classical singer Miyako Saijo (西 条 美 也 子, Saijō Miyako ). Since both have the same goal, Ichiro offers her to take her on his motorcycle with. On the way they are seen by paparazzi, which they follow to the hotel where they stay.

After Miyako has an interview with Amour, the magazine of the paparazzi knocked out, they take a picture of the two artists, which both attended a breakfast shows and print this under the headline " the love story of Miyako Saijo " onto a balcony. Ichiro is due to the fabricated scandal furious and decides to sue Amour.

During the ensuing media circus, a run-down occurs lawyer named Otokichi Hiruta (蛭 田 乙 吉, Hiruta Otokichi ) to Ichiro approach and claims to share Ichiro's anger with the press. Then it takes Ichiro as his lawyer. Hiruta gets Magazine bribe offered when he performs the process in their favor. Short of money because his daughter Masako suffering from tuberculosis, and he needed the money to get treated her, he accepts the offer.

Affected by the compassion which Ichiro and Miyako against Masako show and because of the outrage that brings Masako meet him when she learns as he leads the negotiation, increase in Hiruta guilt. During the trial a close, dies Masako, the Ichiro and Miyako will win the court case in the conviction. On the last day of the trial Hiruta tearfully confesses the bribery. Amour loses the case and the reputation of the artist is restored.
