Green Marmorkrötchen ( Scaphiophryne marmorata )

The Marmorkrötchen ( Scaphiophryne ) are an amphibian genus of the family -mouthed.

Description

The pupils are horizontal. The tongue is elliptic, entire and free behind lifted. Palate teeth are missing. Before the pharyngeal two transverse skin folds are present. The eardrum is invisible. The fingers are free and broadened at the tips large heart- shaped adhesive discs. The toes are connected at their base by a webbed. This is not meshing between the metatarsals of the 4th and 5th toe. The tips of the toes are broadened. The bony phalanges of the fingers are T-shaped, which is simply the toes. Praecoracoide are available, but only weakly developed. The Omosternum missing, the sternum is cartilaginous. The transverse processes of the Sacralwirbels are weak broadened.

Occurrence

The genus is endemic to Madagascar.

The genus was first described in 1882 by Scaphiophryne George Albert Boulenger. A synonym is Pseudohemisus Mocquard, 1895 comprises 8 species.:
