Scar literature

Scar literature (Chinese:伤痕 文学; Pinyin: shānghén Wenxue ) is a term used in Chinese literature. It summarizes the resulting immediately after the Cultural Revolution literary works, in which charged with the crimes of the Cultural Revolution.

Eponym for this literary movement is the tale scars (伤痕, Shanghen '), which focuses on the fate of a sixteen year old at the beginning of the Cultural Revolution girl named Xiaohua is. This turns away from her condemned as a traitor mother and logs on to work in the country. For eight years she refused her mother each contact.

For Xiaohua detention would have meant to her mother insulation. Only the decision against the mother brings her recognition by her surroundings. When she, after the arrest of the Gang of Four in 1976, learns of the innocence of her mother, she comes to hours too late to see his mother again alive. The story ends with the affirmation to never forget those guilty of the injustice done to her mother and to support the new political leadership in the rebuilding of the country.

With the publication of this story began a debate on the role of literature in addressing social ills and started the literary treatment of the Cultural Revolution. Early works of literature scars were often overloaded with feeling and with stereotypes. Often a fitted acting optimistic conclusion was added.
