The Scarpe in Douai
The Scarpe is a river in northern France, which runs in the Nord -Pas -de -Calais. It rises in the municipality of Tincques, dehydrated general direction of east to northeast through the Regional Nature park Scarpe- Escaut (French: Parc naturel régional Scarpe -Escaut ) and ends after 94 kilometers at Mortagne -du-Nord as a left tributary of the Scheldt. Move only lead to smaller rivers in the Scarpe. On his way he crosses the departments of Pas -de- Calais and Nord.

History
During the First World War, the valley was the scene of many battles Scarpe.
Shipping
From Arras, or about 2/3 of its course, the river for navigation was channeled. At Douai he crosses the Canal de la Sensée who is here part of the commercial shipping route Dunkirk -Scheldt.
