Schallodenbach is 13 km north of Kaiserslautern.

Climate

The annual rainfall is 685 mm. The deposits are located in the middle third of the detected values ​​in Germany. At 37% of the stations of the German Weather Service lower values ​​are registered. History

The knights and gentlemen of Schallodenbach probably date from the 12th century. 1202, the site was first mentioned in connection with the castle Schallodenbach. The owner was Ritter Johann von Odenbach. Later, the rule Schallodenbach came into the possession of the Sickinger. Franz Konrad, the only surviving son of the kingdom knight Franz von Sickingen inherited all his possessions.

Since 1659 the castle Schallodenbach was no longer the residence of the owner and was inhabited by a bailiff. Near the castle, next to the Grange was the hunting lodge. The Erbförsterei in Sickingschen Forest Service was looked after for a long time by the forester family Stadtmüller. This once- grand estate fell into disrepair. Under the rule of the French arrived in 1804, the Sickingschen possessions to Schallodenbach for auction. The new owners were not interested in the preservation of the castle. It was used as a quarry to get money. Thus, the castle fell into ruin.

Name

The name Schallodenbach refers to the lowland castle around which the village developed. To distinguish the village name Odenbach am Glan with associated lowland castle since the second half of the 14th century, the place and the castle near the source in the upper Odenbachtal " Schelodenbach " was called. After Theodor Zink the name part " Shel " probably comes from the Middle High German Schelch, shel = crooked, oblique, so the overhanging village Odenbach, located between slopes.

Regular events

Personalities

  • Fritz Seitz (1905-1949) was, from 1936 to 1949 Catholic chaplain and pastor of Schallodenbach, well-known opponents and persecuted by the Nazi regime as well as long-time prisoner in concentration camps Dachau, Mauthausen and Gusen. He died in Schallodenbach and is buried there. 2005 has raised his grave to honor communal tomb and after him the Catholic rectory in the village was renamed " Dean Seitz house".
