Scharndorf

Schardorf is a municipality with 1132 inhabitants (as of 1 January 2013 ) in the district of Bruck an der Leitha in Lower Austria.

Geography

Schardorf located in the industrial district, in Lower Austria. The area of ​​the municipality covers 25.82 square kilometers. 16.67 percent of the area is forested.

History

In ancient times, the area was part of the province of Pannonia. In the core Austrian state of Lower Austria lying the place told the eventful history of Austria. The coulter villages defense tower, now part of the Roman Catholic parish church, was built around 1043. In 1072 Schardorf was first mentioned in documents in Salbuch (lease directory ) of the pin Göttweig under the name " Scorindorf ". During the first Turkish siege of Vienna in 1529 the village was devastated and abandoned by almost all residents. 1659 Schardorf was ravaged by the plague. In the second Turkish siege of Vienna in 1683 a large part of the Ottoman army encamped in the village. After deduction of the Ottomans, the town was repopulated. In 1687 Caspar Wolf delivered from Pressburg a bell, which is still located in the tower. The plague came to the village again in 1739, 1831, cholera.

1848/49 the municipal council was constituted in accordance with the Imperial Patent. A major fire in 1866, the cremated west side of the village a. 1882 Volunteer Fire Schardorf was founded in 1978, won the national competition. The communities Schardorf, Regelsbrunn and Wildungsmauer were merged in 1972. In the years 1989 and 1994 the church Schardorf won the competition " Lower Austria in floral arrangements ."
