Geographical Location
Scharnebeck is located west of the nature reserve bank of the Elbe - Drawehn. The municipality is the administrative seat of the velvet municipality Scharnebeck, with the patch Artlenburg and the communities Brietlingen, Echem, Hittbergen, Hohnstorf (Elbe ), Lüdersburg, Rullstorf and Scharnebeck.

History
In 1253 the village was first mentioned.
On 3 May 1880, the volunteer fire department was established Scharnebeck. Following the motto "God to honor, our neighbor to defend " followed by some men the good model, namely Wilhelm parking, Hermann Harms, William Büsch, William Ahlers, Henry Aumann, Ludwig Harms, Conrad Ahrens and Fritz Cohrs. First captain was from 1880 to 1895 Wilhelm Stellman. Probably the first major use of the volunteer fire department Scharnebeck was in 1895, when half the village of the neighboring town Adendorf was in flames.

Scharnebeck is the seat of the Evangelical-Lutheran. St. Mary's church ( Church District Bleckede, Sprengel Lüneburg ) and the St. John's community of SELK ( Independent Evangelical Lutheran Church ).

Structures
In and around the Protestant church of St. Mary remains of the monastery Scharnebeck are obtained. Here is the important for the state and history of the Reformation Parliament to Scharnebeck took place in April 1527, abdicated on the Duke Henry the Middle definitively in favor of his son Ernst.
In the church is a nationally known baroque organ with historical sound work.
The memory of the domain Scharnebeck is the last completely preserved building of the Cistercian monastery. It was built in 1510 of brick and oak timber in the monastery format.
The ship Scharnebeck is a section of the Elbe Lateral Canal, which forms the connection between the Elbe (height Artlenburg ) and the Mittelland Canal ( at Wolfsburg).
Natural Monuments
At the end of Mill Street on the bank of the mill pond are the remains of the abbey oak, which was one of the largest oak trees in Lower Saxony with a trunk diameter of 2.40 m 1.30 m in height. The tree is about 750 years old. On April 21, 1994 at 4.28 clock tree in complete calm is broken apart. The rest of the oak stops and is abandoned to natural decay. In November 1994 a new oak was planted right next to the old one.
