Schauspielbühnen Stuttgart

The Schauspielbühnen Stuttgart consist of the venues Altes Schauspielhaus and comedy in Marquardt in Stuttgart, Baden- Wurttemberg.

Altes Schauspielhaus

The Old Playhouse is located in an Art Nouveau building in the Little King Street in the center of Stuttgart.

On November 6, 1909, the Old Theatre was opened on the historic site of a former Legation barracks. The characteristic semicircular Jugenstilfassade of time characterizes her appearance today. His heyday the Old Playhouse under its Director Claudius Kraushaar, who, however, because of his Jewish descent towards theater under the Nazis could not continue. Since its opening in the 1980s, the theater is characterized by a sophisticated drama program. Both classic pieces and contemporary theater and musical productions are on the program. The Old Playhouse is recorded from September to July daily except Sundays.

Comedy in Marquardt

The comedy in Marquardt was founded in 1951 by Berthold Sakmann in the former Hotel Marquardt at the Schlossplatz in Stuttgart. In the early years, many stars of the post-war period occurred, among them Heinz Erhardt, Conny and Harald Juhnke Froboess. In 1976, Elert Bode as director of comedy in Marquardt and led them from 1984 together with the Old Playhouse Stuttgart. As of August 2002 Carl Philip of Maldeghem took over the directorship of the comedy in Marquardt and the Old Playhouse, the theater of comedy has been renovated.

The repertoire includes the entire range of comedic stage entertainment: Boulevard and romantic comedies about Swabian dialect pieces to classic comedy. These include guest appearances by artists such as Walter Schultheiss, Joerg Adae and Monika Hirschle.

Other Venues

The International Theatre was founded in 2007. The interest of foreign language performances is the first time met with its own international productions, the first held in the English language and are occasionally supplemented by selected guest performances.

In the theater in the attic one-to two -person pieces are presented under the dome of the old theater. In January 2007, launched the series "Utopia workshop " with the stage adaptation of Jules Verne's adventure novel " 20,000 Leagues Under the Sea". We present productions, all of which can be summarized under the bracket realization and failure of utopias and visions.

Entitled theater above the clouds presented the Old Playhouse theater productions since 2006 more than 140 meters above sea level in the former restaurant basement of the tower top of the Stuttgart Television Tower.

As of March 28, 2013, the television tower for fire protection reasons for the visitor traffic and thus also for the theater above the clouds is closed. Whether a re-opening will take place, is still unclear.
