Scheduled Monument

A Scheduled Monument is a protected archaeological site in the UK. In contrast to Listed Buildings Scheduled Monuments are uninhabited as a rule.

Legally underlying the protection on the Ancient Monuments and Archaeological Areas Act 1979. Monuments be explained by the Department for Culture, Media and Sport, the Ministry also leads the list in which they are performed. In the UK there are about 20,000 Scheduled Monuments.
