In 2005 Scheessel celebrated its 1200th anniversary. The reasoning for this is the performance of the place Schesla in Diedenhofener Kapitular. The community Scheessel is of the view that the present town so Scheessel was meant. Renowned historians and archaeologists do not share this view. For in Kapitular be mentioned at the former border Slavs in connection with the prohibition of arms trade trading places: Bardo Wieck, " Skaesla ", Magdeburg, Erfurt, City Hall ( near Bamberg), Forchheim, etc. to Regensburg. The list shows a clear order from north to south; Accordingly, you should see " Skaesla " are between Bardo Wieck and Magdeburg. Located at the mouth of the Elbe Jeetzel Hitzacker can therefore assume with more probability claim to be the sought Skaesla, than the much too far away from the border Scheessel Slavs.
