Scheffauer

Scheffauer

The Scheffauer is a 2111 m high mountain in the Kaiser mountains in the Northern Kalkapen. It forms the western cornerstone of the Wilder Kaiser and is one of the most visited peaks in the Kaiser Mountains.

Location

The Scheffauer one of the lower peaks in the Wilder Kaiser and completes the main ridge of this mountain range in the west. To the south and north it crashes with powerful, up to 600 meter high rock walls. At the southern foot of the Scheffauers is the Hintersteinersee Sea, West closes at the rarely visited Zettenkaiser while connecting the chopping heads in withdrawing to the east ridge. A rewarding but difficult route leads over this ridge to the Sonneck ( mountain).

Routes

On the Scheffauer there are two routes frequently committed, both marked and adequately secured.

  • From the South: The normal route starts in Scheffau am Wilden Kaiser and leads from the inn Bärnstatt on the Steiner- alpine pasture and schrofige southern flank steep and sunny, but a little difficult to the summit. Walking time: 3 hours.
  • From the North: The starting point for this route is the private Kaindlhütte. From there it goes through the Widauersteig (secured via ferrata difficulty I) through the shady northern flank largely rocky terrain to the summit, more demanding than the southern route, walking time from Kaindlhütte: 2.5 hours.
