History
At the end of the 8th century, the village was first mentioned as Scegifeldum. For Scheinfeld and his community as well as parts for Oberscheinfeld the spellings of the name found in numerous, mostly unpublished archival sources that are detected in the Historical Place Names book for the former county Scheinfeld. The documents and the names of explanations in this book go to historical ( possession and feudal relations ) and geographical (location, agriculture) circumstances arise; the naming interpretation for Scheinfeld and Oberscheinfeld is not easy - to the pointed fields or the fields of a Skago.
After the end of the Second World War in 1945 Scheinfeld belonged to the American occupation zone. The American military administration set up on 28 April 1946, a DP camp to accommodate displaced persons ( so-called Displaced Persons, DPs). The residents came from the DP camp Regensburg and came exclusively from Lithuania. The camp was supervised by the UNRRA Team 569 and 1949 dissolved. When cash was used (English / Lithuanian ) storage charges within the camp a special bilingual.
This camp was originally built by the Reich Labor Service in 1934. Components of this camp today form the so-called old building of Scheinfelder Gymnasium and the Scheinfelder city hall named Wolfgang Graf Hall. The remaining Barackenbauten of the original camp were demolished during the construction of the sports hall in 1993.
Until June 30, 1972 Scheinfeld was administrative center of the homonymous district.
