Schelde (Dill)

BW

The 12 km long river Scheldt is a left tributary of Dill in the Lahn- Dill-Kreis, Hesse means. It is the central river of the same named L'Escaut forest in the west of Gladenbacher mountain country, the flows through it from northeast to southwest, then joins south of Dillenburg.

Course

The source of the Scheldt River is located southwest near the Angel Castle, the highest elevation of 609 m Gladenbacher mountain country, and in proximity to Gansbach - source disk on the boundary Hirzenhain (train station), community of Eschenburg. The following path initially to West West also briefly the border to neighboring community Siegbach occurs over the bank before the river bends to the southwest and reached Dillenburger district that he will not leave until his mouth.

After the Scheldt has largely flowed through to their first 7 km pristine forest landscapes, it reaches in Oberscheld the first and only clearing their course. From left her here flows to the Tringensteiner Scheldt, which has seen up to that point neither settlements nor roads.

Discharges After another two kilometers forest crossing, during which from the right coming from Eibach eponymous creek, eventually leaves the Scheldt in Niederscheld the Escaut forest and enters the Lower Dilltal where they soon flows from the left in the dill.

Tributaries

The following tributaries flow of the Scheldt to:

Apart from Tringensteiner Scheldt and Eibach, are all tributaries of the Scheldt rivers of less than 2 km in length.

Traffic

Almost the entire term of the Scheldt is accompanied by the Scheldt -Lahn- road, country road 3042. This takes advantage of the proximity of the Quelläufe of Gansbach and Scheldt advantage and crosses the watershed between the Upper Lahn and Dill on the comparatively gentle upward and downward slopes of the two rivers.

The same reasoning was followed by the now disused Scheldt Valley Railway ( Schelde -Lahn -Bahn ), the tracks still line the valley of the Scheldt.
