Schellweiler

Schellweiler is a municipality in the district of Kusel, in Rhineland -Palatinate. It belongs to the municipality Kusel.

Geography

Schellweiler is located in the " Bledesbachtal ". The valley, which extends from Wahnwegen to Schellweiler, takes its name from the Bledesbach flows through it. Another name for the Bledesbachtal, is the vernacular name " Saubeertal ". 47 hectares of the municipality is covered by forest.

History

Schellweiler was mentioned in 1277 as " Schulrebure " for the first time in a document. In 1446 it was called then " Scholwijlre " and in 1460 " Schelwilre ", from which soon "Schell Willer " emerged as the dialectal form is today.

The local council in Schellweiler consists of twelve council members, who were elected at the municipal election held on 7 June 2009 by majority vote, and the honorary mayor as chairman.
