Schéma directeur d'aménagement et de gestion des eaux

In France, the SDAGE ( Schéma directeur d' aménagement et de gestion des eaux - Directive on the management and administration of water ) to secure the task of implementing the law of 3 January 1992 at the level of large river basins:

L' eau fait partie du patrimoine commun de la nation. Sa protection, sa mise en valeur et le développement de la utilisable resource, dans le respect of Equilibres naturels, sont d' interet général.

The central subject of the work of the SDAGE is defined in the Act:

  • Preservation of ecosystems, landscapes and wetlands,
  • Protection against any dirt and restore water quality
  • Development and protection of drinking water resources
  • Classification of water as an economic resource and distribution of this resource

However, the SDAGE also need to consider specific issues of water protection, such as in the region of the Artois- Picardie with the old coal mining area in the departments of Nord and Pas -de- Calais and the consequences arising out of coal production for the water balance.

The guidelines are developed by the State, the regions and départements. They are controlled by the Agence de l' eau.

The SDAGE serves as a general framework for the development of the Schéma d' aménagement et de gestion des eaux ( SAGE - Plan for the Management and Administration of the waters), which must be created for each water-bearing system
