Geography

Geographical Location

The community Schenklengsfeld located in the foothills of the Kuppenrhön between the Seulingswald in the north and the Hessian skittles in the south. About 8 km west-northwest of Bad Hersfeld and is about 17 km south-southwest Hünfeld (as the crow flies). It is located on a fertile plateau. In the west, the terrain drops down to Fulda and Werra valley to the east. In Schenklengsfeld a part of the watershed runs between these two rivers. In the neighboring village of pus field arises from the small river Solz which ends in Bad Hersfeld in the Fulda. Furthermore, the source of the Ransbachs is here flowing in Philippstal into the Werra.

The lowest point is 225 m above sea level. NN in the Solzaue. The highest point in the municipality district is 511 m above sea level. NN high country Eckerberg.

Neighboring communities

Schenklengsfeld bordered to the north by the town of Bad Hersfeld and the community Friedewald, in the east on the community Hohenroda (all three in Hersfeld -Rotenburg ), to the south by the municipality of pus field ( district Fulda ) and in the west on the community Hauneck ( in Hersfeld- Rotenburg ).

The municipality consists of the villages Schenklengsfeld, Dinkelrode, Erdmannrode, Hilmes, Konrode, Lampert field, Lander Hausen, Malkomes, Upper Stadtlengsfeld, Schenksolz, Instruct Born, Wehrshausen, Wippershain and Wüst field.

History

The place Schenklengsfeld was mentioned around the year 800 as " Lengesfeld in Thuringia " in the " Breviarium Lulli " of Hersfeld Monastery for the first time and quickly developed into a Amtsort with Bailiwick, court and bailiff. A gallows is mentioned or 1688. From 1648 Schenklengsfeld belonged to the entire office Landeck to Hesse- Kassel and was reformed - Protestant. During the time of the Napoleonic Kingdom of Westphalia (1807-1813) was Schenklengsfeld capital and seat of the Peace Court of the Canton of Landeck.

In 1455 a fountain of youth was mentioned in Stadtlengsfeld. In addition to this source sprang from two other sources in 1688. As of April 23, 1688, there was then for several years with a bathing fountain house, supervised by the spa physician Dr. Bachoff from Gotha.

The place had 1912-1993 with the Hersfelder circular path a rail connection to Bad Hersfeld and to Werra after Heimboldshausen. Today is still the premises of the former circular path on the old railway station available. On 11 September 2009, the Friends of Werra- Fulda railway eV has purchased this along with the leg after Heimboldshausen of the Hessian web; is to take place a heritage railway operating in the future.

Incorporations

The small community Lampert field was incorporated into Schenklengsfeld on April 1, 1962. A large village was built between 1971 and 1972 on the occasion of the Hessian municipal reform. Already on February 1, 1971 Konrode, Upper Stadtlengsfeld, Instruct Born and Wehrshausen were incorporated. At 31 December 1971 was followed by the municipalities Dinkelrode, Lander Hausen, Malkomes and Schenksolz. Mayor

The Mayor Horst Hannich (SPD ) was elected on 31 October 1999 with a vote share of 86.0 %. After 30 years in office Hannich not stepped up to the election on 27 November 2005, but was appointed honorary mayor. In the runoff sat Stefan Gensler (CDU ) 51.1 %, against his opponent Werner Kümmel (SPD ) 48.9 % through. Stefan Gensler took office on May 2, 2006.

The coat of arms was approved on March 14, 1955 by the Hessian Ministry of the Interior.

Culture and sights

Museums

The Judaica Museum there since 1999 in Schenklengsfeld. It was established in the former residence of the teacher Jewish community of Schenklengsfeld as a remembrance and memorial. The house was built in 1912 by the Jewish community was 1996 to 1999 from the specially established Förderkreis Jewish teacher's house Schenklengsfeld eV completely renovated and contains two apartments on the upper floors on the ground floor seminar room has a specialized library and an art gallery with exhibits on religion and history of the Jewish minority of Schenklengsfeld. She made 1925 with 149 souls from around 13 % of the population. In the village there was a synagogue, a Jewish elementary school and there is the remarkable Jewish cemetery. Economy and infrastructure

Traffic

Schenklengsfeld is connected to the national transport network via various highways. They make especially the connection to the highway 62 that leads north to the community over.

Public transport is carried out by the ÜWAG Bus GmbH with the line 340 and 345

Through the village leads the Solztalradweg who is now part of the railway cycle path Hesse. This leads from Hanau on former railway tracks about 250 km through the Vogelsberg and Rhön and ends in Bad Hersfeld.

Others

The village has a community center, which includes the large sports hall of the church. Since 2010 Schenklengsfeld has a radio station called Radio Landeck.
