Schermer

Schermer ( West Frisian: Skirmare; dialect also Skirmer and Skermer ) is a municipality and a polder at the same time in the Dutch province of North Holland. The community includes not only the same polder, but also the polder Oterleek, the Mijzenpolder and Eilandspolder. Only the villages Stompetoren ( with the seat of the municipal administration) and Zuidschermer lying on the polder Schermer.

History

Around 1200 years ago, the area in which the community Schermer is a Veengebiet through which the river flowed Schermer. 1250 was by man from the river, a lake, standing with the IJsselmeer in conjunction.

The name is derived from Schermer skir mere, the " clear lake". The village belonged to different areas: Rekere, Westflinge and Waterland.

The largest part of the lake was polders in the 17th century. The southern part of present-day Lake Alkmaar ( Alkmaar Dutch sea ) remained untouched. 1635 fell 47.7 km ² polder dry.
