Scherpenzeel, Gelderland

Scherpenzeel ( listen? / I ) is a village and a Dutch municipality of Gelderland province west of the Veluwe landscape. She had on 1 January 2013, according to the CBS 9407 inhabitants.

Location and economic

Scherpenzeel located in the extreme west of the area " Gelderland Vallei ", which is known for its chicken breeding and agriculture. Neighboring municipalities are Woudenberg in the west and Renswoude in the east, both in the province of Utrecht. A good road ( Zeist - Renswoude ) leads north around the village. A side road leads northeast to Barneveld, where is the nearest railway station.

The village itself has a lot of small businesses. Agriculture, too, is important.

History

Scherpenzeel ( hall, therefore castle, surrounded with sharp stakes, so well secured ) was built around the castle of the same name, which for centuries was of strategic importance as a border fortress of the Duchy of money compared to the Utrecht diocese. The castle was completely rebuilt in 1856, and now houses several offices of the local authority.
