Schiederweiher

The Schiederweiher is an artificial impoundment by Krumme Steyr lake in the cushion gap in Stodertal, community Hinterstoder. The lake lies at an altitude of 612 m above sea level. A. below the Great Priels in the Dead Mountains.

The approximately two -acre pond is about 1 to 1.5 m deep. The inflow via a ditch stitch of the Krumme Steyr, additionally it is fed by springs in the pond bottom. The drain in the Krumme Steyr is regulated via a wooden weir.

The Schiederweiher was from 1897 to 1902 from k.u.k. Court architect Johann Schieder built. To end the increasing growth of algae and siltation of the pond, the lake was 2004/ 05, restored by the municipality Hinterstoder with the support of the landowner, the Duke of Württemberg.

The ground is covered by lacustrine chalk and covered with Chara and water crowfoot. On the south shore there is a continuous strip of large sedge that other banks are only partially overgrown with reeds, on the west bank followed by a wet meadow. The pond is classified as oligotrophic.

After the performed sparing the reed beds and the shallow water areas of fish population renovation was rebuilt in 2005 with lake trout from the region, Arctic charr, whitefish, minnows, Koppen and crayfish.

The Purple Trail Via Alpina crosses on Schiederweiher over to Prielschutzhaus.
